Pride in their military profession is characteristic for the
Bundeswehr officers. Younger officers have been particularly notable for
a zealous fulfillment of their duties . . . .
It must be assumed that the [West German] troops have good
relations with their allies, especially the Americans . . . .
The moral and political condition of the Bundeswehr must be
considered as extremely unfavorable to us.
We cannot count on any serious support or sympathy for our
armies on the part of the [West German] population. . . .
