WILLIAM ATTWOOD

William Attwood, former editor of Look Magazine, first interviewed Fidel Castro in 1959. As deputy UN Ambassador, he became the leading advocate inside the Kennedy Administration for talking to Castro about the potential for improving relations. He was later named Ambassador to Kenya. After Jimmy Carter's election, Castro invited him and his family to come to Cuba. When he returned, he reported to the new administration on Cuba's continuing interest in better relations with the United States.
