Steve Galster (left), Project Director of the National
Security Archive's Afghanistan collection, with Soviet

Afghanistan, Pakistan and the U.S.S.R. for the
Archive's Afghanistan project. His articles have
appeared in Third World Quarterly, Newsday, Middle
