Dear Sirs:

This is a request for a grant to continue my research project:
"Measurement of Thyroid Function in the Puerperium."

The principal objectives of this study have been outlined in a
prior report to you.

During the past year research activities have been conducted
principally at the [DELETED WORDS] at [DELETED WORD] a unit of
the state prison system.  We are now conducting a new series
of experiments on 100 prisoner-subjects, in which radio-active
iodine uptake of the thyroid and T -4 uptake of red cells, and
several other measures which we have developed, are being 
related to previously-studied variables.

The availability of subjects and inmate-technicians which we 
have trained, has made it possible to extend our investigations
into certain areas involving relations between psychological 
states and organic and toxic conditions.  These ancillary
studies are done without interference with the thyroid project,
which proceeds along a rigid schedule set up months in advance.
