ATTACHMENT 3 Letter from John J. Andrews to the EPA Freedom of Information Office, re: FOIA Request, dated May 21, 1994 Environmental Protection Agency Freedom of Information Office Room A 101 401 M Street, SW Washington, DC 20460 21 May 1994 Dear Gentlepeople: This is a formal FOIA request as part of research for an article. I will pay reasonable search and copy fees if notified in advance and approve the costs. I wish to know: 1. The number of Federal EPA personnel with security clearances to check and work at the US Air Force test facility at Groom Lake, Nevada. in Lincoln and Nye counties. It is known as Area 51. 2. How many total days in 1993 and 1994 (to date) have they spent at the facility? Broken into how many visits? 3. Has the federal EPA taken bore samples in the areas where material has been dumped for many years in the area directly west of the building complex? 4. Out of which district office do they work or do they come out of Washington, DC? All this should exist in existing weekly, monthly and yearly work reports. I do not wish the names of personnel. I look forward to your prompt reply. Thank you very much for your assistance. Sincerely, John J. Andrews 8180 Santa Arminta San Diego, CA 92126-1243
