Biographical Sketches (New Staff/consultants as of April 13, 1995) MONICA SCHOCH-SPANA Consultant Monica Schoch-Spana is a doctoral candidate in cultural anthropology at the John Hopkins University, where she also received her Masters Degree. An ethnographer who studies the United States, she is interested in the domains of work and family, and in the analysis of science and technology as cultural processes. Currently, Ms. Schoch-Spana is writing her dissertation--an historical account of "work" at a nuclear materials facility, that examine the cultural values associated with work in environmental fields versus that in materials production. Immediately prior to joining the Advisory Committee staff, she concluded 17 months of fieldwork at a DOE operations facility.
