ATTACHMENT 10 ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION WASHINGTON 25, D.C. January 1, 1959 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: The bearer of this memorandum, Dr. Robert A. Conard, the project leader of a team of scientists which has been commissioned to perform follow-up medical examinations of the inhabitants of the Marshall Islands exposed to radiation in March of 1954. The Atomic Energy Commission considers the re- examinations to be of utmost importance, not only to the health and welfare of the residents of the Marshall Islands but also to the continued availability and use of the Marshall Islands for the weapons development program of the United States. In organizing this mission the Commission has been careful to maintain timely liaison with Department of the Navy, the Department of State, and the Department of Interior. The Commission is placing great reliance on Dr. Conard and his carefully picked team and any assistance you can render to expedite the requirements of the team will be appreciated. Charles L.
