TAB L * * * * * *STAFF MEMORANDUM* * * * * * TO: Members of the Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments FROM: Advisory Committee Staff DATE: June 9, 1994 RE: Update on Methodological Case Studies At the May meeting the Committee approved the staff's recommendation that further documentation be sought regarding the "Cincinnati", "Plutonium Injection", and "Green Run" experiments. This is a brief update on the efforts to obtain that data. Cincinnati Experiment By letter of May 23 to the Department of Defense, the staff requested further data on the Cincinnati Experiment from the DOD. It is the staff's understanding that relevant DOD components are in the process of responding to this request. Plutonium Injection Experiment The Department of Energy's search team has undertaken to seek, from the Inspector General's files, the 250 documents identified in the 1974 Inspector General reports on the plutonium injections. Green Run The staff has sought to focus requests on the declassification of documents likely to provide information on institutional responsibility for, and the purpose of, the Green Run experiment. As noted in the staff report on DOD (TAB J of this briefing book), the Air Force has stated that it will not further declassify the Green Run study identified in its search; it will provide the declassified portion. In the May 23 letter to DOD, the staff requested declassification of any Green Run-relevant portions of an Air Force history (AFOAT-1) and an interagency intelligence committee. Upon review, the Air Force states that the history does not contain relevant information, and the DOD is seeking to locate the further documents.
