DOCUMENT K MINUTES ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE NINTH MEETING Held at Atomic Energy Commission Building 1901 Constitution Avenue, N. W. Washington, D. C. May 8, 1948 are being established at Oak Ridge, and of a meeting held recently in Washington with the Medical Board of Consultants of Oak Ridge Institute in regard to the problems and program to be established. A full time clinical director is to be appointed with a sufficient staff to care for a 30-bed hospital unit. Dr. Bowers stated that free distribution of isotopes had been made by Dr. Paul C. Acbersold to 80 institutions for cancer research. Dr. Bowers further reported ont he receipt of a letter from N. A. Whiffon, Officer in Charge, Scientific Research Liaison Office, Australian Embassy regarding the use of radioactive phosphorus and radioactive iodine in the treatment of cancer and leukemia. Executive Session Human Experimentation The question of the use of radioactive isotopes and other sources of radiation in human experimentation was discussed and it was the sense of the Committee that Dr. Warren should explicitly express their view to Dr. Stone to the effect that they would look with disfavor on mush experimentation. End of executive Session. Other Business Other Business: The next meeting of the Advisory Committee for Biology and Medicine was set for Friday and Saturday, June 11 and 12, 1948, at the Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, Illinois. The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
