TAB E þþþDRAFT þ FOR DISCUSSION PURPOSES ONLYþþþ MEMORANDUM TO: Members of the Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments FROM: Advisory Committee Staff DATE: November 8, 1994 RE: Radiation Research With Healthy Adults: Overview Staff work on radiation research with healthy adults is focusing on experimentation in which soldiers, prisoners, students, lab workers or other healthy volunteers are used for research purposes. (Worker subject populations are also being focused on in the biodistribution group, in cases of experimentation designed to learn about the treatment of radiation injury.) The September briefing book provided an overview of the use of healthy subjects in experimentation or human data gathering conducted in connection with atomic bomb tests. In this briefing book we focus on a case study of experimentation with prisoners (TAB E). In addition, we provide an update of documentation received by the Committee relating to human experimentation or data gathering in connection with bomb tests (TAB F). The staff, in coordination with the agency search teams, citizens, and other sources of assistance, is continuing to collect and analyze data regarding prisoner, student, soldier, and labworker experimentation.
