September 8-9, 1950 Recess Recess The Committee adjourned for lunch at 12:30. p. m. and reconvened in Executive Session at 1:30 p.m. Human Experi- Human Experimentation mentation A full discussion was held once again on the problem of human experimentation. The Committee felt that human experimentation at the present time is not indicated, that it would have serious repercussions from a public relations standpoint if undertaken by an agency that has to do a portion of its work in secret; and that adequate data can be obtained from animal experimentation, from the Los Alamos accidents, from certain observations which have been made by clinical radiologists, and from the studies at Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. The Committee endorsed the action of the Director of Division of Biology and Medicine in not concurring in a program for human experimentation. END OF EXECUTIVE SESSION 3:40 p. m. Fifth Inter - Fifth International Cancer Congress and Sixth national Cancer Congress of Radiology Congress, Paris France Dr. Warren reported on his trip to Europe to Fifth International Cancer Congress in Paris and Sixth Inter- national the Sixth International Congress of Radiology in Congress of Radiology London. He stated that from the standpoint of science the cancer congress was dissappointing.
